Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.

1 Corinthians 12:12-13

It is hard to fit in sometimes. Groups are everywhere—the athletes, sororities, fraternities, the studious, the student government, the religious, the gamers . . . the lists go on and on. Although these groups can sometimes turn into cliques, we can also admit that once we fit into a group, we feel secure. We feel known. Once you find “your people,” it is easy to become yourself without shame or fear of rejection.

Paul tells us in this passage that once we are in Christ, we become part of a large body of believers. We are in Jesus’ group. This body is made up of many different groups and types of people, but we all have the same goal: to bring God glory with our lives. Though we have differences, we are called to love, serve, and accept those in the body so we can work together to win everyone to Christ.

God made you just as you are and placed you just where you are for His purpose. So invest yourself into serving His church, for He has given you something special to contribute by bringing you together with His family!

Prayer

God, help me to use my unique abilities to bring You glory. Let me serve other believers around me to further Your kingdom.

Scripture References

9Now about your love for one another we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other.
26What then shall we say, brothers and sisters? When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. Everything must be done so that the church may be built up.
16Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ?
17Because there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one body, for we all share the one loaf.
17As iron sharpens iron,

so one person sharpens another.

12Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.
13For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.
