1.The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners,61:1 Hebrew; Septuagint the blind

Heavenly Father,

I come to You tired,

weary,

and burdened by the things of this world.

My flesh is aching for the temporary things,

the shiny and the fleeting.

You promise me freedom,

yet I feel shackled to my sin, a prisoner to my own desires.

You delivered me from slavery,

yet I am bowing to different masters instead of serving You.

You offer truth,

yet I settle for the lies of the enemy that these things or people will give me what I need.

The satisfaction of indulging my flesh with the things of this world lasts

days,

hours,

minutes,

or seconds,

and I trade the lifetime of freedom that You so generously have offered me.

God, I don’t want to be a slave to my sin any longer.

Your Word says that if the Son sets me free, I will be free.

That where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

I am desperate for freedom.

Holy Spirit, help me to be a servant to You and You alone.

Remind me that as a follower of Jesus, I am holy and blameless, and that there is no condemnation for those in Christ.

I repent for the times I have allowed my eyes to see things that steal my affection from You.

I repent for the times I have allowed my mouth to utter words that are deserving of Your wrath.

I repent for the times I have allowed my hands to touch things in a way that does not honor You.

I repent for the wickedness that seems to capture my heart, because I know that it ultimately keeps me from You.

God, I desire to accept the freedom You so graciously offer to me so that I can serve others humbly in love.

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,

because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.

You have sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,

to proclaim freedom for the captives

and release from darkness for the prisoners.

I am released so that I can help release others, and for that, I praise You.

For Your goodness and mercy have been showered upon me, and in turn, can fall onto the shoulders of another undeserving saint, all for Your glory.
