“The devil doesn’t mind if you hear God’s word because he knows what you need to know. Hearing is different than doing.”

What are we truly building our lives on? Power in the Holy Spirit doesn’t come simply from hearing God’s word. It comes from living out of eternal promises rooted in scripture. Hearing is different than doing! Only Jesus can handle the weight of our soul.

Scripture References

24
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
25
The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.
26
But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.
27
The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
28When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching,
29because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.

Book I

Psalms 1–41

Psalm 1

1Blessed is the one

who does not walk in step with the wicked

or stand in the way that sinners take

or sit in the company of mockers,

2but whose delight is in the law of the

Lord
,

and who meditates on his law day and night.

3That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,

which yields its fruit in season

and whose leaf does not wither—

whatever they do prospers.

4Not so the wicked!

They are like chaff

that the wind blows away.

5Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,

nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

6For the

Lord
watches over the way of the righteous,

but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.

3and provide for those who grieve in Zion—

to bestow on them a crown of beauty

instead of ashes,

the oil of joy

instead of mourning,

and a garment of praise

instead of a spirit of despair.

They will be called oaks of righteousness,

a planting of the

Lord

for the display of his splendor.
