In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death—
even death on a cross!
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
Philippians 2:5 -11
Take a moment to observe the passage.
What do you notice about Jesus’ posture? These verses are probably not the picture of glory you were expecting; the gruesome and tragic death of Jesus on the cross is not the world’s idea of glory. We think of glory as beauty, power, and majesty. While accurate, this is an incomplete picture of glory; Philippians 2 offers the rest of the story. In these verses, we see Jesus’ ultimate glory in heaven is possible because He created glory in the lowest place - the cross. Because of the lowest glory of the cross, Jesus can invite us into glory with Him.
How does the cross's glory change how you interact with God?
How does the cross's glory change how you live in the world?
Take a moment now to pray. Confess the times that you have not humbled yourself as Jesus did. Thank God for creating glory in the lowest place - the cross. Ask God to help you find glory in the low places in your life.
