Over the past two days, we have discovered our lives and all our subsequent choices and circumstances are a means by which Christ can be magnified to the world around us. As we conclude our time together, we will uncover the invitation to leverage our lives and our singular call to obedience.
Summary
Galatians 5:13 says, “You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.”
Not only are we free from being shackled to our sin, we are free from being enslaved to the idea of how God might want to use us. In unity and diversity, we have one calling, anchored in the Great Commission.
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
Matthew 28:19-20
Laying down our lives for the glory of God might seem like a tiny flap of butterfly wings in our workplaces, communities, and churches, but the consequences are infinite. Through finite obedience, we found ourselves written into an eternal story. We see this well in Jesus’ words in the Gospel of Mark.
For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it.
Mark 8:35
Each of us is part of something much greater and holier than we may ever begin to understand. In our circumstances, whether we see them as a means to celebrate or to suffer with Christ, we find an invitation to leverage everything for the sake of the Gospel. We are an instrument the Lord loves to play.
Let that sink in. You are a means God is able and wants to use. Your ordinary day and extraordinary gifts included: you are an instrument.
What's Next?
- Dr. Charles Stanley said: “Obey God and leave all the consequences to him.” Where in your life do you need to obey God today?
- Does it encourage you to know that you are an instrument for the Lord? Why or why not?
- Write down the places you frequent (think coffee shops, church, workplace, park, etc.) How can you make Jesus known in those places?
