What if you don’t have to have it all together? What if you would admit without hesitation that things are not okay in your world?

You are welcome here. You came to the right place. Our goal for the next few days together is not to offer you strength-filled platitudes or hollow encouragement but to link arms and bring gospel truth to your darkest of nights.

This message contains language on the topics of anxiety, depression, and suicide. Viewer discretion is advised.

Summary

Like storms over ocean waters, depression, anxiety, and the power of suicide garner their strength over the warm seas of the night when the clouds of confusion and darkness roll in. In these moments, you may start to ask: will I ever see light again?

Truth be told, we may not understand the full scope of the darkness you feel, but that doesn’t mean we can’t turn on the light.

That is where we begin our time together today: turning on the light. Not a superficial light or a man-made brightness, but the ultimate light–Jesus.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:1-5

There has never been a night so dark that Jesus could not illuminate it. By the grace of God and through the finished work of Jesus, we are not alone in the dark. The midnight hour will not last forever.

What's Next?

  1. Reread John 1:1-5. What are the promises in that passage of scripture that you need to take hold of?

  2. Do you need to step into the light tonight? If the answer is yes, we encourage you to pick up your phone and call or text a friend, letting them know you need help in turning on the light.

Scripture References

17I will not die but live,

and will proclaim what the

Lord
has done.

1Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus,
38For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,
39neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
