Motherhood: Identity, Calling, and Community

May 14

Carmen Coe and Kirsten Watson led our House this past Sunday in a conversation about motherhood. Their encouragement and challenge came around the topics of community, prayerfulness, and time with Jesus.

Key Takeaway

Invest in community, live prayerfully, and carve out time to be with Jesus.

Discussion Questions

    1. What is your history with your mom?

    2. What were/are your grandmothers like?

    3. How did your mother and grandmothers affect your family – for good or bad?

    4. What qualities of your mom do you want to carry on and embrace?

    5. What is Mother’s Day like for you? Is it joyous? Painful? A little of both?

    6. If community is a major piece of motherhood, what does that tell you about your mom, given the community she was surrounded by?

    7. Read back through Matt. 14:22-33. What is something you saw in the text that you had never “seen” before?

    8. Kirsten Watson shared about the importance of getting away to spend time reading Scripture and praying. When you do this, what is it like from beginning to end?

    9. If you find yourself “maxed out” and without margin, what are the “Veggie Tales moments” of your day where God might speak to you through something unexpected?

    10. Take a moment as you close to pray for a couple of specific moms around your lives. Do you know any widows, moms struggling with infertility, moms who have run from God, or mothers who are worn out? Pray for them (they might be in your group).
