Idol-Lies

Louie Giglio continues the thread of conversation on idolatry, focusing on the idol of pleasure. We were created for a hunger and appetite of awe + wonder, but we often trade true awe that can only be found in Jesus with lesser things. We end up unsatisfied when we give lesser things our attention and affection. God wants more for us—He is the only one who can settle your anxious heart and satisfy your every longing and desire.

Lord

, not to us

but to your name be the glory,

because of your love and faithfulness.

2Why do the nations say,

“Where is their God?”

3Our God is in heaven;

he does whatever pleases him.

4But their idols are silver and gold,

made by human hands.

5They have mouths, but cannot speak,

eyes, but cannot see.

6They have ears, but cannot hear,

noses, but cannot smell.

7They have hands, but cannot feel,

feet, but cannot walk,

nor can they utter a sound with their throats.

8Those who make them will be like them,

and so will all who trust in them.

1But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.

2People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,

3without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good,

4treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—

31So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
