From the Inside Out

Friday night and Sunday morning. The account of all that happened that weekend adds up to one truth: that when Jesus died, was buried, and rose, people put their faith in Him. Jesus knew that we were both spirit and flesh and just as our flesh will fade, sin will lead to the death of our spirit. This is why Jesus did what He did. It’s why He gave His life on a cross, why he gave up His last breath, and why, early Sunday morning, the stone was rolled away from His grave; not so that He could come out, but so that we could come in and see what God had done.

Scripture References

3For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
4that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
5and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve.
6After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.
50And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.
51At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split
52and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life.
53They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people.
54When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!”
1After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.
2There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it.
3His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.
4The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.
5The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.
6He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.
