Louie Giglio unpacks the potential of the Above + Beyond season for us. As Passion City Church has grown, God has given us the grace to stretch our curtain wide. But to keep stretching, we have a clear call to deepen our stakes and step into the life of Generosity God has called each of us to.
Key Takeaway
We want to be people who give more than what we normally give so that we can go beyond where we normally go.
If you're attending church somewhere, you’re sitting in someone else’s tithe and generosity right now.
Above + Beyond is a Passion City Church initiative where the church comes together to give above what we normally give so we can go beyond where we normally go.
When talking about the growth of a church, why do the numbers matter? Because they matter to Scripture.
- How many disciples were there? 12.
- How many tribes of Israel? 12.
- How many people were fed in the first miracle recorded? 5000.
- How many days and nights did it rain when Noah was on the ark? 40.
- How many disciples were in the room in Acts 1? 120.
There's even a book of the Bible called "Numbers." Numbers matter because our mission is to make space and spaces for people to come to know Jesus.
Though all of our numbers are up, there is one that isn't. And it's our regular giving. Lots of churches, including ours, are flat or down this year in comparison to last year.
So what do we do?
We tighten up, become better stewards of what we have been given, and inspire and invite more people into the generosity story.
Tithe vs. Generosity
Tithing is not generosity, it’s obedience.
Generosity is giving above the tithe.
Generosity creates margin—margin to make space for opportunity and for us to step in.
We have the decision of either folding our tent or stretching our curtain wide.
Let’s all lean.
Let’s all call on Heaven.
Let’s all give.
Let’s all believe we are going to celebrate a miracle.
