A Liturgy for When My Friend Prospers

Oh, good God who gives good things,

Fountain of every wonder,

Father who gives extravagantly without relenting,

You have given lavishly

to someone close to me,

and my heart is soaring because of it.

I can see in their sparkling eyes

the ocean of Your generosity.

I can see in their lifted spirit

how perfectly you draw near to those who need You.

It is amazing to celebrate with those who celebrate!

You have blessed me by blessing my loved one:

by writing Your love in their laughter,

by weaving Your care in their smile,

by sealing Your provision in their relief.

Oh Father, who gives unceasingly,

remind me that You give through Your hands,

that I am also Your hands,

and that I can remember Your generosity wherever I want

by passing it along,

by taking stock of what You have done for me,

and doing the same for someone else.

Generous King, thank you for how you’ve lifted my loved one.

May your generosity roll like your justice.

May your peace surpass our understanding.

May our eyes never miss the good things you give the people around us,

and may that inspire us to turn back to you

day after day,

moment by moment,

overfilled, overflowing, filling those around us

with the joy only You can give:

for You have refreshed someone close to me,

and that has made my heart soar.
