God, I miss You.

 

I have replaced 

time at Your feet with time on my phone,

Your Word with people who talk about it,

and worshipping You with worshipping others.

 

You deserve my undivided devotion.

 

How wicked were the people of old, fixing their eyes on gold? 

Yet, I bow to a black screen.

 

Father, I see the hypocrisy.

Jesus, intercede for me.

Holy Spirit, help me flee from the stronghold of idolatry.

 

You will not let me be tempted beyond my ability.

 

Opinions, fears, and comparisons have polluted my mind.

 

Yet I want whatever is true, 

honorable, 

just, 

pure,

lovely, 

commendable, 

excellent, 

worthy of praise, 

to fill my thoughts.

 

I choose Your promise to sustain me and, in turn, sacrifice the validation I receive from others.

I choose the identity You’ve given me and sacrifice the image I try to portray to strangers.

I choose to follow You and sacrifice the urge to follow everyone else.

 

I cannot serve two masters, 

so I choose You.

 

I’m returning my attention and affection to their original owner, 

the only One worthy.

 

I gouge out my right eye by removing apps, 

and I cut off my right hand by setting time limits.

 

May these restraints secure my undivided devotion to You.

 

Help me meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways, and let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
